"If you want my help, you need to take action."
"If I could take action, I would not need your help," that was my first thought when I heard this statement many years ago.
Now, I truly believe it is true.
But let me provide some more clarity here.
There are four types of people who are unhappy with their current state and are seeking help:
😒 Critics - These are people who possess knowledge and experience and want to validate their options by contrasting them with other opinions. They invest their time but not their money.
How to identify?
These people tend to comment on everything you say negatively. They have their truth and hardly engage in constructive discussions. You must provide data, proven information, and use cases to back up everything you say and stay neutral. It might take a lot of time before you get their buy-in.
😎 Bosses - These individuals clearly expect you to do the work for them, with minimal involvement on their part, but they are willing to invest money. They do not invest their time.
How to identify?
These people pay you money and expect you to do the whole work instead of them. These are also the individuals who delegate retrospective actions to the Scrum Master or expect you to implement the solution they request. They are typically too busy to provide the feedback, review, or collaboration you might need.
😩 Person 404 - These are lazy and idle individuals who show no commitment or determination. They want you to change the status quo on their behalf. They neither invest their time nor their money.
How to identify?
These individuals are unresponsive and indifferent, often expressing interest initially but then disappearing, leaving you to chase after them for support. They may say they are interested but vanish when it's time to take action. Don't spend your energy on them!
🤩 Decoders - These are individuals who do not take things for granted. They want to analyze, experiment, and learn. They seek to discover new horizons and are prepared to commit to trying new things and taking action. They invest both their time and money.
How to identify?
Decoders are enthusiastic, determined, and passionate. They carefully digest the information before taking action, asking clarifying questions, and potentially questioning your solutions. They exhibit genuine interest and intent. Once a plan is agreed upon, they commit to execution and engage in the necessary collaboration to make it work.
Based on this, Decoders are the most pleasant people to work with. They have high demands but also possess the means and determination to make things work.
📌 So, if you are a Decoder, I want to hear from you! I am gathering another group of decoders and showing them how to help their teams work with intent and impact using coaching and facilitation strategies and our #IntentionalCollaborationCanvas.

📌 If you are a Boss, with some more involvement, we can find something for you here
🚫 If you are a Person 404... sorry, dude, no options for you. Come back when you are among the first three. 🙃
Now, which type of person do you resonate with, or which type of individuals are you currently assisting?
